Great Skin Starts With No Makeup In Bed

By Candice Straughter

Removing your makeup at night is essential for maintaining a healthy complexion. Repeatedly sleeping in your makeup can lead to signs of premature aging, skin irritations, clogged pores, breakouts, bacterial buildup and potential infections. Nobody wants that!

If you want to make sure your skin stays fresh in the crisp Fall air, take these few extra steps to make sure your skin is always bedtime-ready.

Wash With a Gentle Makeup-Removing Cleanser

Micellar Water is great for removing everything from foundations to eye makeup and lip products in one simple step. There’s also no need to rinse. So if you’re in a rush to get to bed or just want to speed up your skincare routine, Micellar Water is a great makeup removal option.

Makeup-remover facial wipes can be a convenient alternative to your regular cleanser. There are a variety of options that are aimed at cleansing the entire face or simply removing makeup in the eye area. Choose the one that works best for your beauty routine. There is debate among beauty professionals and dermatologists over whether or not makeup-remover wipes should be used as a solo product for makeup removal. Many skin care professionals recommend rinsing your face after use. For those with sensitive skin, look for makeup-remover wipes that are alcohol-free, fragrance-free and gentle on the skin.

Toner Is Optional

Toner isn’t needed by everyone. But if you have oily or acne-prone skin you should use a toner after removing makeup. Toners help to remove any dead skin cells or oils that may remain on the skin after cleansing. It also provides a second benefit in that it preps the skin to absorb your moisturizer. Damp skin is best when applying moisturizers.

Moisturize Your Skin

A good nighttime moisturizer should not only give your skin the hydration it needs, but it should also be non-comedogenic. Regular use of a nighttime moisturizer helps to decrease moisture loss on the following day. When applying your moisturizer, take care to treat the gentle skin under your eyes and apply moisturizer to your neck.

Use a Good Overnight Mask

This should be the last step in your nighttime routine. Overnight masks are great for all skin types. They provide maximum hydration at night and have added benefits for firming, brightening and smoothing skin texture.
